A little late but had to share

Last week Saturday a lot of Mommy Bloggers and readers got to attend the Johannesburg Huggies Momville Launch, it was a lovely day filled with catching up with old friends, meeting new faces and spending time with our little monsters.

The food was indulgent and never stopped coming and coming and coming, the weather was perfect and company was great. I don't want to spill to much as the last one is happening this Saturday in Cape Town and all the wonderful moms who are attending are in for a real treat.

It was all to launch the Huggies Momville website, where pregnant and new moms can find useful info and advice from professionals and moms a like, a community to connect with mom, a platform for mom's to share their stories and a bubble filled with needed advice and information.

Pregnancy Yucky's

Only 19 days to go before my elective C-section (yes I say it loud and proud) ELECTIVE C-SECTION, but that's another post entirely. The last few days it's been a heat wave in Jozi, need I even say more.

  • So with temps ranging in the late 30's and the natural over heating of a very pregnant woman actually quite literally brought me to tears.
  • Back spasms, there's this one spot that is always in pain and it goes into spasm when I sit for to long and recently while I'm sleeping.
  • Heart burn, I have touched on this before but it seems to be a lot worse and would happily go back a few weeks for that heart burn because this heart burn might actually induce death, I wake up crying in pain.
  • Energy, 2nd trimester I had crazy energy, I've never actually felt energy quite like it, another distant memory though and I have taken up full time napping.
  • Swollen feet and calves, can anybody scream CANKLES!!!
  • Feet popping out of my stomach in public.
  • Foot in rib... all day.
  • Dehydration
  • Dry skin
  • Dry hair
  • Breaking nails
  • Oh and the waddle.

Pregnancy Yucky's

I'm 31 weeks so it's 9 weeks if I go natural and only 6/7 weeks if I go for a C-Section. I'm going to see my Doc next week so then we will now for sure. I must say I don't know how I'll make another day never mind weeks.

  • Sandman spells, I get these instant exhaustion spells, I'll be fine one minute and then the next I could seriously pass out standing up.
  • I get this foot stuck between my ribs and flesh that is extremely painful.
  • I get kicked "somewhere near there" that feels like I'm seriously going to pop out the baby right then and there.
  • It now looks like I have an alien in my tummy, it moves like a horror movie, it's awful and creepy and gives me nightmares.
  • Heartburn, like nothing you have ever felt before, my lungs hurt, I can't actually breath, I become immobile, I actually cry real tears from the pain this causes.
  • Back ache, from my neck all the way down to my ass, actually I get ass ache from time to time from all the pressure this heavy bump is creating.
  • Sleep, hahahahahahahahhahahahaha, what's that.
  • Stretch marks like sneaky vines, they grow daily, I can't really talk about this, it's to heart breaking.
  • General moving takes a lot of energy and it's easier to just stay still.
  • However staying still is also painful, as certain positions seems to cause pins and needles and cramps.
  • My boobs are growing again, who knew they could anymore, I seriously think a boob job gone horribly wrong would still be less painful than this way of doing things.
All this and men still complain about putting a damn cot together.

Pregnancy Yucky's

I am over pregnancy. I hate it now more than I ever did. If you love it that's great for you but I honestly think you lieing.

  • Yesterday I measured my belly, it was 101cm, this morning I measured my belly it is now 107cm. The maths - I grew 6cm in a day (I'm a pro measure girl, I studied fashion, I didn't get it wrong)
  • Fat feet, itchy feet, hot and sweaty feet, burning feet, I wanna chop off my feet, feet.
  • Huge ass
  • I pee all day
  • I feel like I am over heating all the time, bring back winter.
  • I struggle to get up and down from anything.
  • I fit basically nothing in my wardrobe, I have no idea what I'm going to wear.
  • My gums bleed so much when I brush my teeth
  • Morning sickness + bleeding gums = disaster
  • I have already bought bra's one size up, now I need more.
  • Shopping sucks
  • When you praying it to be over, you realise you have another 10 and a half weeks.

Pregnancy Yucky's

I only have 12 weeks to go, yikes, and my body is morphing into a big blow up fish and I'm starting the famous waddle.

  • I really do grow over night, proven by the fact that the people around me say I am double the size of yesterday.

  • Nose bleeds have always happened but now they an every night thing.

  • My sore outer ears from sleeping on them to long are back.

  • Sleep, hahahaha, I literally make a cave of pillows before I get into bed hoping it will give me some comfort back.

  • My belly ring scar, which is now a mini crater, has ripped on the side and is SO itchy, please if you young and reading this, don't get one or a tattoo on your stomach.

  • Itchy burning nipples - intensity 11

  • Tender breasts is the correct word - I think a better description would be someone giving them one of those chinese bangles, while poking them with a sharp object and pouring itchy powder in your bra. ( I want my small boobs back, this ain't worth it)

Pregnancy Yucky's

I do understand the gift of having a baby and I love it when Peanut moves but I hate pregnancy. I just do. I'm not good at it. I'm not graceful. I hate it when people say "Look how big you've gotten" when would a woman want to hear that. I hate spending time on getting ready just to hear how "cute" I look, I miss looking sexy, gorgeous and beautiful.

Yucky's for this week
  • My ass is finally getting bigger, wider, fatter, kind of like J-Lo's but on a good day.

  • Stretch marks are creeping slowly across my huge ass love handles, like vines of evil.

  • Heartburn, um no, they really need a new name for this experience during pregnancy because it is not heartburn. It's a flame of torture, that rips your insides a part for hours at a time.

  • Gooey stuff from nipples has doubled, this I really can't handle.

  • Dry scalp - Holy Moses and I have almost black hair and nothing helps.

  •  I can no longer tie my own shoe laces

  • Getting in and out of a bath is also getting quite tricky

  • I am getting little blue veins on my boobs  - this made me cry.

  • Crazy dreams and I mean crazy dreams and I'm used to being a nut while I sleep. We talking killer peas with little arms and legs and evil faces marching single file line into my room to kill me with there little spears and bow and arrows.

  • BITCH syndrome, I have already warned everybody around me.

Pregnancy Yucky's

I'm going to start listing the gross things of pregnancy and funny symptoms and what they really mean when they say tender boobs. Maybe another newly pregnant woman will stumble here and at least know they not dieing or turning into some strange creature.

Here's a few from the last week or two

  • Sore outer ears - no you not weird for thinking your ears hurt from sleeping on them to long, it does happen, I think it's one of those rare symptoms, mine hurt so bad I cry myself back to sleep.

  • Some woman glow and some of us break out in hives/acne/something itchy and awful all over but on your face mostly.

  • I'm 26 weeks and this gross clear liquid just came out of my itchy nipples, I almost fell off my chair at work (I have my own office, so I don't openly look at my nipples)

  • Your once beautiful ankles turn into tree trunks and it is possible to get stuck in your boots.

  • Your tummy itches like a mo-fo (apparently you must NOT scratch because it worsens stretch marks, not to sure what they expect you to do though)

  • If you had a belly ring once upon a time, stuff comes out of there to and the hole turns into a second belly button

  • I really hope you don't have a tattoo on your stomach, my fairy is turning into a over grown troll.

  • Your memory is non existent, write things down and double check when you leave shops that you actually have what you purchased.

Cup is Best

Last night when I got home from work I found to pamphlets on the dining room table, clearing about pregnancy. The one I didn't even open, it was about eating right during pregnancy, I know what to eat we all know what to eat and I know I'm never going to eat 5 vegetables a day.

Then there was the other one, in big bold letters, CUP FEEDING IS SAFER THAN BOTTLES. I thought I was seeing things, this concept is like the whole toweling nappies thing. An idea that instantly makes your life harder. I'm actually wondering if mothers actually do this.

I am really hoping to breast feed, you loose weight, it gives you back your stomach, it's free and available without preparation. It does freak me out though but I'm going to seriously give it a try. On this note my mom and I were discussing what I need and what is a waste of money and we were discussing pumps and how I should wait to buy one, she doesn't see the point of them if you have a breast use that why on earth would you pump milk. I do see her point.

Well in this pamphlet of "Cup is best" they have detailed instructions on how to express milk.... by hand, like a cow.

I couldn't contain myself, my sister was horrified and my mother just looked bewildered at this idea. Who does this, imagine your boyfriend, lover or husband walking in on you when you milking yourself like a farm animal. I think it would actually turn a man off seeing this, I can picture it now, when you in bed with them and they all of a sudden stop and look nauseated they probably imagining you milking yourself.

I must say it was a good laugh, not great at the dinner table but I would like to thank the government for sending out these pamphlets and enlightening and educating us woman on how to milk ourselves and feed our babies with a cup. Who would of known.

Child Birth, Breast-feeding and all the other wonders

I think I'm a terrible pregnant woman, when it comes to reading up on pregnancy and child birth and babies I'm just terrible. it's actually none existent. All my friends who are pregnant, or who have just had babies or about to have babies all have hundreds of books and magazines. I just haven't found any that I can actually read I always just stop half way through an article or look at the pics.

My friend gave me a few of her magazines and one of her "Pregnancy and birth" books and I was flipping through them last night. Didn't last long, I find them to scary they freak me out more than anything and the more I read and the more stories I hear, the more I'm trying to figure out another way for my baby to come out because all options sound just awful to me.

I've wanted natural child birth from the beginning because I'm scared of needles and knifes cutting flesh and blood and the thought of somebody cutting me open while I'm awake and then moving my organs around to get to my womb and then pulling out my baby, seems so unnatural and disgusting and I'd probably pass out before they even put the knife to my skin.

The more I learn about child birth the more unnatural that sounds to. First, when my friend had her baby, she heard a woman down the passage screaming like a serial killer was chopping her up bit by bit. She later found out the woman had given birth to a 4kg baby without drugs because the "pain doc" (what they called) was no where to be found. This is the hospital I am going to. Can you imagine pushing out 4kg's without drugs! I think I'd seriously injure every nurse that came close enough to me until they found the f*cking drugs.

Then my mom just told me how another woman just gave birth and she lost so much blood during and after labour she needed a blood transfusion. Just think about it how much blood can you loose out of your va ja ja to need a blood transfusion. Now my mom assured me everything goes back to normal, but now I'm thinking fair enough but how quickly. How long do you walk around stretched for before you go back to normal. This is seriously freaking me out.

Then there's the Cesarean, my friend was in labour for eight hours and then they decided to cut her open, because she had one and was in so much pain she says she forgot about all privacy and didn't care who saw or touched her. She had to have nurses come in and clean her, a different one every time. some hurt her and some spoke to her will looking straight into her. Then there's the oozing puss cut she had to clean everyday, which got infected. All this makes me light headed every time I think about it.

Breast-feeding, I've never been a fan, being a waitress and watching strangers whip out there boob while telling me what they would like to eat kind of killed it for me. I learned that it helps weight loss and to get your stomach back to it's former glory, so now I'm all for it or I was till I read up on it and really thought about it. I read the other day that if he latches on wrong you have to de-attach him from your boob. This sounds so barbaric, you have to stick your finger in his mouth and push against his cheek till he releases his grip. The there is another girl I know, she stopped breast feeding because her baby actually made her nipple explode. I can't even imagine the pain. How is this natural or beautiful, it sounds like cave men and wild animals.

Then I read that it might make your boobs smaller, that I can handle I've always been small and actually miss having almost nothing but then they say "SAGGY." This was in an article promoting the health of breast feeding. Oh yes let's tell new mothers how there perfect boobs are going to sag this will definitely win them over. Lets not forget, because you breast feeding, leaving your baby with your mother will have to wait and going anywhere will have to be planned according to feeding facilities.

Last but not least, the breast pump. You know when you in school and the word sex makes you giggle and feel all uncomfortable. Well this is what this topic does to me. I remember once when I was in primary school we went a farm and we got to milk cows but some of the cows were connected to these huge pumping machines, with tubes and strange sucking noises happening. Someone asked the farmer doesn't it hurt and he said that's what the nipple cream is for and showed us this huge ass 10 litre tub of pink cream with flies in it. This is where my head goes every time somebody brings up this topic with me. To make it worse my friend isn't using her pump so to save money she offered hers to me, in front of my mother so there's no way around it. I don't care if I have been friends with her for over 10 years or we sterilize it and that she only used it once or twice, it milked her and now it has to milk me.

Some moron suggested raising my baby green to me the other day, I was a bit confused. Apparently disposable nappies take 300 years to disappear. So they want me to use those old fashioned, white toweling ones. These you need a separate bucket for to soak and wash and disinfect and then re-use. I don't care if disposables never disappear there is no chance in hell that is ever going to happen. So they said they running out of the ingredient that makes it absorbent, well as long as there's enough for the next 2-3 years that's cool  and if they run out after that I'll definitely never be having another child.

Overall reading those magazines and books have just made me wonder how is the world over populated, because the whole thing is just awful, painful, gross and barbaric. Yes I love my baby but holy shit I don't love the ones I don't have yet and wouldn't go through all of this again.
